Let me start off by saying that you do not need to have any artistic talent whatsoever to have a blast going to one of these. If you couldn’t draw a stick figure to save your life, you will have a great time. If you are truly talented and can create absolute masterpieces out of a blank canvas, you will have a great time. All I’m saying is, with your friends, a paintbrush, and table service bringing you snacks and your favorite beverages, you will have a great time.
Tip #1: Make sure you check Groupon or Living Social, or sign up for Paint Nite’s email newsletter, so you can get a discount. There is no reason to ever pay full price.
Tip #2: Show up a few minutes before your class starts so you’ll have time to put in your food and drink orders before the painting begins. You will most likely have a server the entire time, but it’s still nice to have a drink and an app or two by your side before you get started.
If you remember those days in elementary school when the teacher would draw a picture up on the board and you’d draw along with them, step by step, this is similar. Your instructor will walk you through each step of the painting, from how to mix the acrylic paints to get the right shade, to the different types of brush strokes you’ll be using. They’ll even come over and help you out if you think you royally screwed up your pic.
They also walk around and snap pics of you are your crew during the event!
You have the freedom to do anything you please with your painting. So, if everyone’s painting a flower and you feel like painting a motorcycle, no one is going to stop you.
Paint Nite gets 4/5. Minus one for not including any food or beverages in the price. Come on, they even require that all participants be 21+. What’s the point if they don’t even give you a single drink?
This is fun to do as a group or in pairs, but you could absolutely go solo and meet some new people. Everyone I’ve encountered so far at these events has generally been friendly and laid back. How can you not be in that environment?
Now that I’m totally an artist, excuse me while I chug a beer and go to Color Me Mine.
